One of the highlights of 2023 was our trip to Puerto Rico. Drained and tired after the move and flight, I had fallen asleep in a hotel bed immediately. But the morning started with an unexpected guest. Little bananaquit landed on the balcony railing of our bedroom and sang us the wakeup song.
I have decided to create a pattern devoted to this delightful bird and use it as a wallpaper somewhere in our home.
The bananaquit is a bird renowned for its vibrant personality and distinctive appearance. Its small size and lively yellow plumage, coupled with a sleek black cap and curved beak, make it a visually captivating species. Beyond its charming aesthetics, the bananaquit is known for its playful behavior, often seen darting among flowers and foliage in search of nectar and insects.
Later I discovered that couple of bananaquits have been building a nest near the wall fountain where purple queen's wreath was in full bloom.
This bird's cheerful and melodic songs add a musical touch to its natural habitat. With its adaptability to various environments and its intricate nest-weaving skills, the bananaquit stands out as a resilient and resourceful creature, making it a joy for birdwatchers.
The bananaquit exhibits a remarkable adaptability to human surroundings, often becoming quite tame in proximity to human settlements. In South America, locals have encountered these charming birds perched on kitchen tables in search of sugar. The bananaquit's melodious song, described as "insect-like," resonates with a delightful mix of twittering and shrill notes, contributing to its unique and captivating charm.
